Can't remember what shows we did back in the mists of time? Here's a comprehensive list of productions and events:
December 13th 2003 - Sean, Danny and Pauline meet and discuss a young person's drama group in the village - the Young Downe Arounders is born! Or at least, re-born as the YDA existed as far back as the 1980s (I can't even remember the 1980s!). YDA is direclty associated to the Downe Arounders, a drama society which has been in the village since 1976.
May 2004 - 'The Magical Mystery Tour' A revue of songs, sketches, scripted pieces and a live band! This was held at Charles Darwin School for two nights. It included: Circle of Life (Lion King); Yellow Submarine (The Beatles) a piece of melodrama (originally written in the 1800s) and Any Dream Will Do (Joseph).
Christmas 2004 - 'The Christmas Show' was a collection of songs to get people into the spirit of Christmas. It featured Danny as Father Christmas and some interesting costumes!
May 2005 - 'Bugsy Malone' a classic school-play with music and plenty of 'splurge'!
We had a bit of a break... did loads of workshop style stuff - had a BBQ in the summer of 2006! Went and saw 'The Time Machine' a musical, at Theatre 62, in December 2006. And in 2007...
February 2007 - 'Return to the Forbidden Planet' the most mammoth show that Downe has ever seen. Captain Tempest and his fearless crew took off into outer space for the biggest rock and roll musical in the history of SDTG! This production was followed by the first 'SDTG Annual Award Ceremony' where Stephen Grant won the Richard Shaw Award for his improvement during the production.
March 2007 - Sean's Theatre Quiz - to raise money for new equipment, we hosted a theatre-themed quiz in the village hall, raising over £200! We had some excellent prizes.
May 2007 - On 20th May a large group of members, parents and leaders set off on a 10 mile sponsored walk around London. It started in Greenwich and finished at the National Theatre - hence the title 'Downe to the National' get it? We raised a lot of money doing this - the walk alone paid for our new sound equipment! We even got a mention on London's XFM that we were doing it!
February 2008 - 'The Wizard of Oz' indeed another classic musical which saw the members jig and dance their way through all the well-known songs from 1939... including that classic hit 'Wake me up before you go' (if only L. Frank Baum could have seen it - he would have been so proud).
March 15th 2008 - The SDTG Annual Award Ceremony - the winner of this year's trophy was Jaime Herd. Members with three or more years service had their names read out as they had been nominated for a NODA Youth Certificate! Everyone involved in Wizard was given their certificate of achievement, and a special mention was given to Emma Grant.
July 3rd-5th 2008 - Little Shop of Horrors - another mega musical for SDTG - another success.
November 2008 - Stars 2B: a revue-style show featuring sketches, songs and music from various musicals and television shows. The performances also featured two unique sketches written by the members themselves.
June 10th 2009 - Disney's 'The Jungle Book Kids' - audiences got hold of that swinging jungle beat for three nights in June when the cast sang and danced their way through the classic songs and story from The Jungle Book.
September 5th 2009 - The third Annual Awards Ceremony and Disco. DJ Sean cracked out a few classic camp hits for this party. The winner of the Richard Shaw Award for 2008/09 was Kirsty Holden-Murphy.
The saga continues...........
